Lakes. Football rivalries. Microbreweries. These are just some of the things that come to mind when one talks about Michigan. But that’s not all. The state is also home to a number of prestigious universities, including the University of Michigan. Established in 1817, it is the oldest university in Michigan. While the university is well known for academics, notably the Ross School of Business with its BBA and MBA programs, it is even more renowned for its intense college football rivalries.

The University of Michigan is home to the Michigan Wolverines football team (in this case American football), considered by many as the most successful team in college football history. With an intense rivalry with the Ohio State Buckeyes (which has often been referred by ESPN as the greatest rivalry in American Sports), Michigan takes football as a religion. The football team’s stadium, Michigan Stadium, is also the largest college football stadium in America, and one of the largest football-only stadiums in the world.

Beyond sports, Michigan Ross School of Business has a renowned MBA program, and got a new academic building in 2016. Spread over 104,000 square feet and costing roughly $400 million, the building consists of six floors and nine classrooms, as well as a career services center, a gym and office space for various staff departments including operations, finance, development, and human resources.

Ann Arbor ranked as best college town in America

Ann Arbor, the city in which University of Michigan is located, was recently ranked as the best small city to go to attend college or university in WalletHub’s 2020’s College & University Rankings. Using data from academic, social, and economic opportunities for students, WalletHub also ranked Ann Arbor #1 on their list of ‘The Most Educated Cities’ in America.

The ranking for Ann Arbor as the best college town in America comes on the heels of Michigan being named as the top travel destination for outdoor enthusiasts in 2020 by TripSavvy. Highlighting several of some of the most popular outdoor attractions, especially the 19 million acres of forest and 3,000 miles of shoreline, Michigan is indeed an outdoor paradise for anyone who doesn’t prefer spending their time indoors or behind a screen.

Ann Arbor is also known for the multitudes of beer gardens it has on offer throughout the city. Ranging from local and regional brews to hand crafted beers, Ann Arbor is a delight for anyone who prefers a variety in their beers. The city also has a thriving theater scene, with Michigan Theatre known for its inviting stage productions, independent films and musical concerts. Culturally, Ann Arbor is also home to a number of museums, including the Michigan Museum of Art, which houses masterpieces from Picasso, Andy Warhol, Monet, and Tiffany. The city is also a gold mine for vinyl record enthusiasts, with a number of record stores in the city stocking a wide array of modern and classic records. For outdoor enthusiasts, visiting the Matthaei Botanical Garden and Nichols Arboretum or canoeing or kayaking in the Huron River is one thing that’s highly recommended.

“I was charmed by The Graduate Hotel, with its Maize and Blue graffiti, old-school cocktail lounge and library vibe. Walking from the Graduate to the Ross School of Business was a delightful experience. Ann Arbor offers interesting options to foodies. Special thumbs up for Zingerman Deli and Isalita restaurant, both kindly recommended by the MBA admissions team at Ross School of Business.”
