The role of the Career Center at LBS

The career center at any business school, or university, is an important stakeholder group for a current or prospective students. It is the bridge that connects graduating students with recruiters and upholds the employment records of the university. London Business School’s Career Center offers:

  • Career and Professional Development
Workshops and online resources to help you develop the skills you need to for your career progression.
  • Career Opportunities
Access to a range of networking and career opportunities.
  • Career Coaching
1 to 1 sessions and resources for reflection and evaluation of your capabilities and preferences. These take place in-person and on campus but also via Skype.
  • Employment and Career Insights
Global, regional and sector specific trends and insights and information on the hiring process.

Both Zhu and Santos touched upon the different ways the Career Center helps students with their careers.

  • Hosting interactive workshops that are focused on experiential learning and developing the skills to transition or accelerate in your career.
  • There are a number of networking opportunities on campus that are attended by recruiters and alumni focusing on different industries and sectors, such as Private Equity and Technology.
  • The business school also hosts career treks to cities like New York where students learn more about career opportunities from a global perspective and meet alumni, companies and recruiters.
  • The career center also offers insights into employment and careers by providing information on the different sectors within the finance industry, the emerging themes, and how that translates to what recruiters are looking for. Case studies are also provided on former MiF students and how they were able to secure their roles through dedicated newsletters and blogs.

An alum’s perspective

Following Jessie Zhu and Rachel Santos, alumna Arpita Bhabhera reflected on working with the Careers Center, and how she made the most of all their resources. Be it attending workshops on building the best CV and a cover letter to meeting and interacting with Sector Leads and getting insights into various sectors before applying for internships. Bhabhera also discusses her experience being a part of the Investment Management Club during her time at LBS, where she gained career support in line with her professional aims, while securing an opportunity to attend the clubs Speaker Series and workshops on topics such as stock pitching and more.
